REPORT: Dodgers confirm Huge deal To Sign Teoscar Hernández Slugger Despite Red Sox Rumors
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández entered free agency at the start of this offseason, with many expecting him to re-sign with Los Angeles. However, the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays have emerged as serious contenders after missing out on Juan Soto earlier this winter. Could one of these American League East teams pry Hernández away from the Dodgers? Despite the speculation, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley predicts Hernández will return to the Dodgers on a projected three-year, $71 million contract, according to Spotrac.
“It’s possible a reunion is still in the works—Dodgers manager Dave Roberts thinks it will happen, for whatever that’s worth—but the longer Hernández remains unsigned, the more plausible it is to imagine him landing elsewhere,” Buckley noted. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand highlighted that the delay in securing a deal has “opened the door” for the Red Sox and Blue Jays to make their case.
While the Dodgers are interested in retaining Hernández, it’s uncertain if they’re prepared to meet his reported asking price of $22-24 million per year over three years.
A return to Los Angeles appears logical, given Hernández’s previous willingness to accept deferred money in last offseason’s one-year deal. The Dodgers could use this flexibility, along with their recent World Series success, to bring him back on slightly more favorable terms compared to offers from Boston or Toronto.
