One of the top edge rushers is heading from a winless MAC program to the SEC after making a quartet of visits. Former Kent State standout and four-star transfer portal prospect Kameron Olds stayed true to his plan by committing shortly after finishing his official visits. “Decision made,” the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Olds told 247Sports. “SEC, it is. University of Kentucky is my new home.”. Olds is the No. 8 edge and No. 51 player in the transfer portal. He entered the portal Dec. 9 and he had Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Ole Miss and Kentucky as his top schools.

He went into his Friday to Kentucky feeling good about the Wildcats thanks to discussions with defensive coordinator Brad White, and how he fits in the scheme. Learning more details about how he would be used in the defense made him feel comfortable. “When comparing schools such as Georgia Tech, Nebraska and Kentucky, I wanted to visit an ACC, SEC and Big Ten school,” he said, “to see where I had the best opportunity to graduate on time, make an immediate impact on the field and maximize my growth and development as I prepare for the next stage of my career.”. White was instrumental in Olds’ decision.

The two knew each other from Olds’ high school recruitment. “It’s the SEC and coach Brad White, the D coordinator, he’s been recruiting me and the conversations with him are good,” Olds said. It was a long path to Kentucky for Olds, who attended Midlothian (Va.) High and then Fork Union (Va.) Academy since his recruitment out of high school was severely impacted by covid. He was going to walk-on at Virginia Tech but instead opted to sign with Buffalo in the 2022 class. He played in 21 games over two seasons with the Bulls and he went into the transfer portal following the 2023 season. He settled on Kent State, which went 0-12 in the fall, but Olds was a standout on defense. He finished with 42 tackles, including six sacks, and an interception. Prior to making his commitment public, Olds told the schools he officially visited. “I just notified the other three schools of my intent as I wanted to honor their interest in me by informing them of my decision,” he said. Olds is the 14th transfer to pick Kentucky this cycle, and he is the second edge rusher. He joins USC transfer Sam Greene in the transfer class.
