The Boston Red Sox made headlines Monday morning with a notable roster addition.

The team reportedly signed right-handed starting pitcher to a one-year deal worth $21.05 million, including incentives, as first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Russell Dorsey and later confirmed by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Buehler, 30, will embark on his first full season with Boston after recovering from the second Tommy John surgery of his career. Despite the injury, he played a pivotal role for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024, delivering a dominant postseason performance. He didn’t surrender a single run across 10 innings in the National League Championship Series and the World Series and even pitched the final inning of the Dodgers’ championship-clinching win in New York.

Boston Red Sox dream rotation comes to fruition after signing former playoff villain

A two-time All-Star during his tenure with the Dodgers, Buehler’s best season came in 2021, when he went 16-4 with a 2.47 ERA and finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting. His 2019 campaign was also stellar, earning him Cy Young votes after a 14-4 record and a 3.26 ERA.

The Buehler signing is the second major move this offseason for the Red Sox, who were in dire need of rotation upgrades. He is expected to slot in behind newly signed ace Garrett Crochet as Boston looks to revamp its pitching staff.
