BREAKING: Cardinals in talks with prominent outfielder released by Cincinnati Reds
The Cincinnati Reds have parted ways with outfielder Peyton Burdick, reducing their minor league outfield depth. Burdick’s journey in 2024 was eventful, starting with the Baltimore Orioles before being claimed off waivers by the Reds in April.
Burdick made headlines on May 21st when he hit a remarkable 500-foot home run while playing for Louisville, the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate. This blast was noteworthy as it surpassed the longest MLB home run of 2024 by 20 feet.
Despite his power potential, Burdick struggled at the plate. In 47 games for Louisville, he batted just .189/.291/.341 with 80 strikeouts in 189 plate appearances. His season was cut short in July due to an injury.
The 2019 3rd round pick by the Marlins had brief MLB stints in 2022 and 2023 but didn’t reach the majors in 2024. His release in December is unusual timing, potentially indicating an opportunity to play overseas, though this hasn’t been confirmed.
Burdick’s departure from the Reds organization means he’ll be seeking new opportunities elsewhere in baseball.
