A Q&A with Miami Marlins outfielder prospect Peyton Burdick | Miami Herald

The Cincinnati Reds have released outfielder Peyton Burdick, further depleting their minor league outfield depth. Burdick’s 2024 season was eventful, beginning with the Baltimore Orioles before the Reds claimed him off waivers in April.

Burdick grabbed attention on May 21 when he launched an astonishing 500-foot home run while playing for Louisville, the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate. This impressive feat surpassed the longest MLB home run of 2024 by 20 feet.

However, his offensive struggles overshadowed his power potential. In 47 games with Louisville, Burdick batted just .189/.291/.341 and struck out 80 times in 189 plate appearances. His season ended prematurely in July due to an injury.

Originally drafted in the 3rd round by the Miami Marlins in 2019, Burdick saw brief MLB action in 2022 and 2023 but did not make it back to the majors in 2024. His December release is unusual and could suggest an opportunity to play overseas, although no confirmation has been made.

With his release, Burdick is now searching for a new opportunity to continue his baseball career.
