REPORT: Yankees To Land $427 Million Toronto Blue Jays Superstar to Fill up Third Base

The Toronto Blue Jays may not secure a contract extension with their star first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., whose current deal expires at the end of the 2025 season. Guerrero recently witnessed Juan Soto secure a nearly $800 million contract, raising the bar for elite players.

Given the soaring market, it’s unlikely Guerrero will agree to an extension. If he opts not to stay with the Blue Jays long-term, the team could consider trading him.

Christopher Kline of FanSided compiled a list of potential landing spots for Guerrero, surprisingly ranking the New York Yankees as the second-most likely destination. “This would be the funniest outcome,” Kline wrote, referencing Guerrero’s past comments about wanting to “kill” the Yankees and vowing never to play for them due to a family feud. However, Kline noted that Guerrero has since softened his stance, possibly in anticipation of such circumstances.

Kline highlighted the Yankees’ need to replace Soto’s impact and bolster their lineup around Aaron Judge. He described Guerrero as “the next-best option” given his youth and impressive accomplishments.

Despite the Yankees’ interest, a trade seems highly improbable. The Blue Jays are unlikely to deal their young star to a division rival, especially one as disliked as New York. Even if they were open to the idea, the Yankees lack the prospect depth required to make a compelling trade offer.

While New York could pursue Guerrero in free agency after 2025, acquiring him sooner seems unrealistic.
