REPORT: Red Sox To Swing Blockbuster Trade For $427 Million Blue Jays Super talent
The Boston Red Sox have taken steps to address their underwhelming 2024 season, but so far, they have yet to land a marquee acquisition. While the addition of a player like Alex Bregman in free agency could change the narrative, Boston appears to be losing ground in the Bregman sweepstakes. If they miss out entirely, the Red Sox may need to pivot and make a bold move to salvage their offseason.
Cody Williams of FanSided recently suggested that the Red Sox might pursue a blockbuster trade for Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. if Bregman is out of reach. However, this hinges on the unlikely scenario that the Blue Jays would consider trading Guerrero. Williams noted:
“The Red Sox have long felt like the best next landing spot for Guerrero, and it’s hard not to think that some of the slow-playing we’ve seen from (Craig) Breslow this offseason could be with eyes on Vladdy next winter. But they could also jumpstart that process by offering someone like Marcelo Mayer and a bevy of other prospects. Even after the (Garrett) Crochet trade, Boston has one of the best farm systems in baseball, which could help the Blue Jays start fresh post-Vladdy and Bo Bichette.”
Although a Guerrero trade remains speculative, Boston’s strong farm system, featuring prospects like Triston Casas, Wilyer Abreu, and Marcelo Mayer, could make them a leading suitor if Toronto decides to explore a deal. That said, the Blue Jays might hesitate to send a superstar to a division rival, even for an enticing package.
For now, a trade for Guerrero appears more fantasy than reality, but if the Blue Jays open the door, the Red Sox could be a team to watch.
