REPORT: Yankees in blockbuster Trade Idea to Send $200 Million Superstar to Bronx in Four-Player Swap
The New York Yankees have made several roster adjustments for 2025 following the loss of outfielder Juan Soto to the New York Mets. According to YES Network’s Jack Curry, the Yankees are likely to shift Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base, potentially paving the way for a trade involving Minnesota Twins infielder Carlos Correa. Despite general manager Brian Cashman’s efforts to strengthen the team after the Yankees’ first World Series appearance since 2009, additional moves remain necessary.
Longtime second baseman Gleyber Torres signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Tigers, leaving a vacancy at second base that Torres had filled since 2018. Chisholm, who joined the Yankees before the 2024 trade deadline, primarily played third base but previously spent much of his career at second base with the Miami Marlins. The Yankees could enter spring training banking on DJ LeMahieu reclaiming his form at third base or exploring other external options.
MLB analyst Robbie Hyde proposed a hypothetical trade scenario that could bring Correa to the Yankees. The deal would involve the Yankees acquiring Correa, while the Twins would receive right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt, utility player Oswaldo Cabrera, and right-handed pitching prospect Will Warren. Hyde noted that Correa, who nearly signed with the Mets as a third baseman in the past, could benefit from such a position change due to his recent injury history.
Correa is in the third year of a six-year, $200 million deal with the Twins, with an annual luxury-tax impact of $33.33 million through 2028. His contract also includes vesting options from 2029 to 2032, according to Spotrac.
