BREAKING: Georgia Bulldogs Fans Furious Reactions With Cotton Bowl Officials Sparks Major Controversy several Officials Jobs At Stake
The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Texas Longhorns 28-14 on Friday night, securing their spot in the National Championship Game. However, a missed call during the game sparked outrage among Georgia Bulldogs fans on social media. Georgia’s season ended the previous week with a 23-10 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In that game, the Bulldogs were penalized after Parker Jones collided with a referee on the sideline, negating 15 yards from a 67-yard reception by Arian Smith. Georgia had to settle for a field goal on that drive.
In the Buckeyes’ matchup, Jack Sawyer strip-sacked Quinn Ewers late in the fourth quarter and returned the ball 83 yards for a touchdown. Georgia fans quickly pointed out that several Ohio State players and coaches were on the field during Sawyer’s return, questioning why no penalty was called.
The controversy led to a flood of reactions from Bulldogs fans on X, formerly Twitter. User @AbeFromanKing99 criticized the officiating throughout the 2024 College Football Playoff, stating, “What amazes me is how poor the officials they put in these playoff games are.” Another user, @Unstablesportz, expressed frustration, calling it “all rigged.” Meanwhile, @MaverickHTN questioned the inconsistency in officiating standards.
While Georgia fans feel the missed call in the Buckeyes game highlights officiating flaws, it’s unlikely it would have changed their outcome against Notre Dame.
Now, the Bulldogs must regroup and prepare for the 2025 season with hopes of making a stronger CFP run.
