REPORT: Yankees Make Blockbuster Trade for Controversial $200 Million Superstar

The New York Yankees have already made significant roster upgrades by acquiring stars like Max Fried, Devin Williams, Paul Goldschmidt, and Cody Bellinger. However, another blockbuster deal could be on the horizon before Opening Day. Fireside Yankees, part of Empire Sports Media, proposed a trade that would bring shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins to the Bronx.

Proposed Trade:

Yankees receive:

  • SS Carlos Correa

Twins receive:

  • INF George Lombard Jr. (No. 3 prospect)
  • RHP Chase Hampton (No. 6 prospect)
  • RHP Ian Hamilton
  • C/1B Rafael Flores

Fireside Yankees highlighted Correa’s value as a top-tier hitter capable of hitting to all fields while playing elite defense. Moving Correa to third base could also help manage his durability, as shortstop duties can strain a player’s lower body. This positional shift would also resolve the Yankees’ infield dilemma by allowing Jazz Chisholm Jr. to play second base.

Carlos Correa on season with Twins, future plans

Correa, a three-time All-Star and Platinum Glove winner, signed a six-year, $200 million contract with the Twins in 2023, which includes vesting options through 2032. While the Twins’ front office, led by Derek Falvey and Jeremy Zoll, stated they aren’t actively shopping players like Correa, they are open to creative trade discussions.

“If the right idea comes along, we have to consider it,” Falvey said, referencing past deals like the Pablo López trade.

While the Yankees would lose two of their top 10 prospects in this deal, they’d gain a proven star to strengthen their lineup. However, Correa’s addition could be controversial among Yankees fans due to his involvement in the 2017 Houston Astros’ cheating scandal, which played a role in eliminating New York from the postseason that year.
