The Indianapolis Colts have a promising young quarterback in Anthony Richardson, who showed signs of growth toward the end of the 2024 NFL season.

However, some roster needs have to be addressed before the team is ready to truly compete in the AFC.

Under head coach Shane Steichen, the Colts’ offense has been solid, though their defense could use some work.

Indianapolis was one of the league’s weaker defensive teams last season, so it decided to make some changes on that side of the ball this offseason.

The biggest decision was to hire former Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo to fill their vacancy.

Anarumo was the architect behind the Bengals’ defense for years and will now get an opportunity to build up the Colts’ defense.

Indianapolis has been diligent about adding to Anarumo’s staff and reportedly is making another strong hire.

“The Colts are hiring Chris Hewitt as their Pass Game Coordinator/Secondary Coach, per source,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero wrote on X.

Hewitt has been with the Baltimore Ravens since 2012, leading their secondary before being promoted to assistant head coach for this season.

Under Hewitt, the Ravens consistently ranked as one of the best secondaries in the league.

The former NFL defensive back now has an opportunity to transform an Indianapolis secondary that left much to be desired.

Hopefully, with a better defensive staff and personnel, the Colts can turn things around on that side of the football.
