The Cincinnati Reds continued their minor league acquisitions, this time re-signing corner infielder Edwin Rios through 2025. He spent the 2024 season with the organisation and appeared in five games with the Reds in the week leading up to the All-Star break, going 1-9 with a walk.

The remainder of the season was spent in Triple-A with Louisville. The 30-year-old was the top hitter in the farm system in 2024. He played 99 games for the Bats, hitting.286/.385/.547. His 28 doubles, 22 home runs,.286 batting average, and.385 on-base percentage were second in the farm system. His.547 slugging percentage and.932 OPS were both the highest in the farm system. He also led the International League in OPS (.932) and was second in home runs.

The 2024 season marked his sixth consecutive season in which he spent part of the year in the major leagues. He played with the Dodgers in 2020, appearing in all three rounds of the playoffs as he helped Los Angeles win the World Series.

Dodgers Evaluating Edwin Rios For Potential Hamstring Strain

While Edwin Rios only played first and third base for Cincinnati in 2024, he has spent some time in the lower leagues with the Dodgers, where he played corner outfield. Rios will turn 31 in April, so this is likely to be a depth signing, similar to when he was brought in a year ago. Every team needs those types of players, and Rios has played for several teams in recent years.

As of the time of writing, there had been no reports of Edwin Rios getting invited to big league camp. His signing was listed on the transaction wire merely as “signed a minor league deal”. When such deals are inked, it is occasionally revealed that they included an invitation to big league camp.
