The 2024 season was unforgettable for the Denver Broncos, as they secured their first playoff berth since 2015 and found their future franchise quarterback in Bo Nix. Despite delivering the best rookie season by a Broncos quarterback in team history, three-time Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Ed McCaffrey had even more praise for Nix.

While speaking to the team, McCaffrey was asked what makes Nix a special quarterback. “He had a lot of college experience and can make every throw in the playbook,” McCaffrey noted. He also highlighted head coach Sean Payton’s emphasis on avoiding sacks and negative plays, pointing out that Nix was one of the least sacked quarterbacks in the NFL. After being among the least sacked players in his final season at Oregon, Nix was brought down just 24 times in his rookie year while starting all 17 regular-season games.

McCaffrey believes Nix had one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory, finishing sixth in the NFL in passing touchdowns—outperforming stars like Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jordan Love, Jayden Daniels, and Justin Herbert. He also ranked 12th in passing yards, ahead of Matthew Stafford, C.J. Stroud, Allen, and Daniels.

“He has a maturity beyond his years and a high level of skill,” McCaffrey said. “He throws a great ball with a tight spiral, gets rid of it on time, and places it where receivers can catch it in stride and make plays.”

Thanks to Nix’s impressive performance, which helped lead the Broncos to 10 wins and their first playoff appearance since the Peyton Manning era, the team appears to be much closer to contending for a Lombardi Trophy than many expected.
