The Seattle Seahawks hired Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator in late January, with head coach Mike Macdonald citing his ability to tailor an offense to his players’ strengths as a key factor in the decision.

“I think what’s cool is that he’s able to use the entire roster,” Macdonald said in an interview with FOX 13’s Aaron Levine on Thursday. The full interview is set to air on Seattle Sports Live Sunday night at 10:30 p.m.

Kubiak replaces Ryan Grubb, who was fired after just one season in the role. While the team will formally introduce Kubiak to reporters on Tuesday, Macdonald spoke about the hire, emphasizing his long-standing respect for Kubiak and his family.

The son of former NFL head coach Gary Kubiak, Klint has served as an offensive coordinator for multiple teams, including the Broncos, Vikings, and Saints. In his most recent stint with New Orleans, the Saints ranked 21st in total offense, 23rd in passing, and 14th in rushing, averaging 19.9 points per game (tied for 24th in the league). However, the team dealt with injuries, including the loss of starting quarterback Derek Carr for seven games. All five of the Saints’ wins last season came with Carr in the lineup.

During his time as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator in 2021, Minnesota averaged 25.0 points per game (14th in the NFL) and ranked 12th in total offense, 11th in passing, and 17th in rushing.

Macdonald praised Kubiak’s ability to maximize his players’ strengths, highlighting how he helped Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara in New Orleans, as well as Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson in Minnesota.

“He is able to accentuate and highlight players at any given position,” Macdonald said. “Kirk Cousins played some of his best football under Klint, and Justin Jefferson had a standout rookie season with big-time games. That’s what I respect about Klint—he knows how to build an offense around his players’ strengths while minimizing weaknesses.”
