On Monday, it was officially announced that former West Virginia running back Quincy Wilson has been appointed as the new head coach at Weir High School in Weirton, West Virginia, his alma mater.

Wilson had previously been set to become the first head coach at Rio Grande, a NAIA school in Ohio, but was let go by the school just five months after his hire. The official press release did not specify the reasons for his departure, stating, “To respect the privacy of all parties involved, Rio will not be providing details on the separation.”

Since entering the coaching field in 2017, Wilson has spent much of his time in West Virginia, coaching as the running backs coach at Glenville State in 2017, Associate Head Coach and running backs coach at West Virginia State from 2018 to 2021, and running backs coach at Fairmont State in 2023.

In 2022, Wilson served as the head coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale, where he coached just one game. The program, being new, struggled with a lack of players and numerous injuries, leading to the cancellation of games.

During his time at West Virginia, Wilson rushed for 2,608 yards and 20 touchdowns on 474 carries. His famous catch-and-run against No. 2 Miami remains one of the most iconic plays in the program’s history. On 3rd-and-13, Wilson caught a pass in the flat, broke several tackles, and sprinted down the sideline for a touchdown, running over defensive back Brandon Merriweather in the process.
