Report: Boston Red Sox re-sign former DH to lucrative deal in free agency
The Red Sox may be interested in re-signing Justin Turner, but he might not feel the same way.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, Turner remains a free agent as he prepares for his 17th MLB season. The veteran infielder appears to be a backup option for multiple teams still in the mix for star third baseman Alex Bregman.
Both Boston and the Detroit Tigers have reportedly shown varying degrees of interest in Turner and Bregman. However, the 40-year-old might already have a preferred destination for 2025.
“Turner and his wife Kourtney, an Indiana native, are intrigued by the idea of spending the summer in Chicago, according to league sources,” Rosenthal and Mooney reported. “Playing for the Cubs at Wrigley Field would complete a big-market journey for Turner, who has previously played for the Red Sox, Dodgers, and Mets.”

The Cubs have also been linked to Bregman, though most believe they would only sign him if he’s open to a short-term deal. However, recent reports suggest Bregman is determined to secure a long-term contract.
With several offseason changes, Craig Counsell’s team could benefit from Turner’s veteran leadership, making it no surprise if he ultimately lands on the North Side of Chicago.
