BREAKING: Rangers’ Artemi Panarin Reveals True Feelings on Missing 4 Nations
New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin voiced his disappointment over Russia’s exclusion from the 4 Nations Face-Off, calling the situation “pretty sad.” In an interview with Larry Brooks of the New York Post, Panarin expressed frustration at missing out on the first best-on-best senior international tournament in nearly a decade. “You always want to play international tournaments and represent your country,” he said.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has barred Russia and Belarus from competitions in 2025 and 2026, stating that it is “not yet safe to reintegrate” them. However, there remains a possibility that Russian players could compete under the ROC banner at the 2026 Olympics if the International Olympic Committee lifts sanctions. The IIHF also noted it would reassess the situation by May 2026 to determine if Russia and Belarus could return for the 2026-27 championship season.
Despite the exclusion, Panarin believes many players across the league, not just Russians, would support Russia’s participation. “It’s just sad, but we can’t do anything,” he said. “I know most players probably want us to be able to play in these events. Players are not against it.”
Panarin previously represented Russia at the IIHF World Championships, winning gold at the 2011 World Juniors and earning silver and two bronze medals in the 2015, 2016, and 2017 tournaments.
