New Virginia Tech offensive line coach Matt Moore faces a crucial spring ahead. Hired in December, Moore quickly made his mark in Blacksburg, despite losing his offensive coordinator just a month after his arrival.

The Hokies are still without an offensive coordinator after Tyler Bowen left for Ohio State, but the momentum hasn’t slowed down.

Last week, Virginia’s top prospect, offensive lineman Darius Gray, scheduled an official visit with Virginia Tech from April 11-13, coinciding with the Hokies’ spring game. Gray, a 6-foot-3, 285-pounder from St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, is ranked as the No. 25 player nationally and No. 2 in Virginia by 247Sports. Despite a top 12 list including schools like South Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, LSU, Georgia, Clemson, and Oregon, the Hokies are still in the mix, with Gray having a strong connection to Moore.

Along with Gray, fellow offensive lineman Desmond Green will also visit that weekend. Green, a 6-foot-4, 354-pound player from Timberland High School in Saint Stephen, South Carolina, is already highly sought after, holding offers from South Carolina and Georgia.

Additionally, prospects Carter Scruggs from Leesburg, Virginia, and Thomas Wilder from Virginia Beach are also high on the Hokies’ radar. The good news for Virginia Tech is Moore’s experience and established relationships, as he recruited each of these players during his time at West Virginia.

Virginia Tech needs to win some of these recruiting battles, with Wilder being the most likely to sign. Meanwhile, head coach Brent Pry faces the task of securing an offensive coordinator.
