BREAKING: Indianapolis Colts to sign former $160 million quarterback
Shane Steichen has now completed two seasons as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, guiding them to a 9-8 record in his first year and an 8-9 finish in 2024. Throughout this period, the team relied on a mix of Gardner Minshew, Anthony Richardson, and Joe Flacco at quarterback. However, despite being the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson’s inconsistency raises questions about his potential as a franchise quarterback.
With Flacco heading into free agency, the Colts must now evaluate potential additions to their quarterback depth chart for next season.
Indianapolis Colts named potential fit for Daniel Jones
Anthony Richardson has started only 15 games in his young NFL career, leading the Colts to an 8-7 record while completing 50.6% of his passes. However, the team needs more consistency from its quarterback.
As the soon-to-be 23-year-old works on improving his game this offseason, the Colts must ensure they have a reliable backup plan. With over $20 million in projected cap space, they have the flexibility to add another quarterback to their roster.

Recently, James Boyd of The Athletic proposed that the Colts consider signing former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Yes, Daniel Jones’ time with the Giants ended poorly, and his 24-44-1 record as a starter is far from impressive. However, he did lead New York to a playoff win during the 2022 season. His mobility would allow the Colts to maintain a similar offensive approach if Richardson were to miss time due to injury.
Jones, who turns 28 in May, has clear flaws—but that’s the case with nearly every quarterback who becomes available; otherwise, they wouldn’t be on the market. The idea behind adding a starting-caliber quarterback is to push Richardson to improve. If the 2023 No. 4 overall pick can’t hold off Jones for the starting job, then he likely was never a true franchise quarterback to begin with.
