REPORT: Bills Release Future Hall of Famer After Disagreeing to Pay Cut
Von Miller, a future Hall of Famer and one of the top players of his era, could be released by the Buffalo Bills if he refuses to take a pay cut. The team signed him to a six-year, $120 million contract in 2022 with expectations of elite production, but he has struggled to live up to that investment. Last season, Miller recorded six sacks, 17 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and eight quarterback hits, but he did not start a single game and played only a third of the defensive snaps.
At this stage of his career, Miller is primarily a situational pass rusher, leading NFL Network’s Matt Okada to suggest that the Bills might move on from him. Okada pointed out that Miller has managed just 14 sacks over three seasons in Buffalo, played about a third of the defensive snaps in 2024, and will turn 36 on March 26. Given his limited role, his $23.8 million cap hit next season may not be justifiable.
Report: Buffalo Bills Could Release Von Miller
Potential landing spots for Miller if he becomes a free agent:
- Kansas City Chiefs – The reigning Super Bowl champions could add Miller as a rotational pass rusher to bolster their already strong defense. With Chris Jones commanding attention on the interior, Miller could provide valuable pressure off the edge in key situations.
- Baltimore Ravens – Known for their aggressive defensive schemes, the Ravens could use Miller’s experience and pass-rushing ability to complement their young edge rushers. His leadership and playoff experience would be a strong asset to Baltimore’s defense.
- Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys are always looking for defensive playmakers, and pairing Miller with Micah Parsons could create a dangerous pass-rushing duo. Dallas values veteran leadership, and Miller’s experience in big games could be a valuable addition to their championship aspirations.
While Miller may not command a major contract, his ability to contribute in a limited role could make him a valuable asset for a contender in need of pass-rushing depth.

Possible Fits
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled in recent years to find a reliable pass-rushing complement to edge defender George Karlaftis. 2023 first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah has yet to shed the “bust” label, and former Patriot Josh Uche failed to make an impact before his brief stint with the team ended. While Von Miller is no longer in his prime, the 13-year veteran would be an ideal addition for a win-now team like Kansas City. He may not be capable of another dominant 2015 playoff run, but his presence would undoubtedly boost the Chiefs’ chances of securing another championship.

Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions boast one of the league’s premier pass rushers in former first-round pick Aidan Hutchinson, but their pass-rushing depth remains a concern. The rest of the unit consists of unproven young players and journeyman veterans, leaving the team in need of reinforcements. With former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn no longer leading the defense, Detroit could take a step back unless they compensate with additional on-field talent. Given the Lions’ explosive offense, opposing teams will likely rely heavily on the passing game to keep up, providing Von Miller with ample opportunities to make an impact as a situational pass rusher.
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers may not be as competitive as the Chiefs or Lions, but they could still be a viable landing spot for Von Miller if the Bills move on from him. After revamping their offense in 2024 to support franchise quarterback Bryce Young, the Panthers must now focus on strengthening their defense. With a clear need for pass rushers, Miller wouldn’t be a long-term solution, but he could provide veteran leadership, contribute as a situational rusher, and help develop the team’s young defensive talent—all at an affordable price.
