BREAKING: Understand, Buffalo Bills To Sign Underrated safety as perfect free agent signing
This would be a solid depth addition for the Bills.
While it might not be obvious, GM Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills have a challenging offseason ahead. Despite finishing 13-4 and narrowly losing in the AFC Championship Game, they face key player departures—particularly on defense—that will need to be addressed.
Buffalo’s defense played a major role in their early playoff exit, with weaknesses on the defensive line and in the secondary. Although their linebacker group—Terrel Bernard, Matt Milano, and Dorian Williams—remains strong, the Bills struggled against the run, and their secondary became exposed after Christian Benford suffered a concussion in the conference title game.

One potential loss in free agency is safety Damar Hamlin. However, the Bills still have Taylor Rapp under contract, and Cole Bishop is entering the second year of his rookie deal. Even so, reinforcing the safety position remains a priority.
An underrated safety is listed as the perfect free agent for Bills to sign
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport believes the ideal free agent signing for the Buffalo Bills this offseason is Las Vegas Raiders safety Tre’Von Moehrig.
Moehrig may not be a household name, but the fifth-year safety is coming off a career-best season, recording 104 total tackles. Since 2023, he ranks among the top 15 safeties in interceptions, forced incompletion rate, tackles for loss or no gain, and defensive stops.
Despite the Raiders’ ongoing struggles, Moehrig thrived in a contract year and is now set to draw interest from multiple teams. If he’s looking for stability and a chance to compete for a contender with a thin safety group, Buffalo would be an excellent fit.
Head coach Sean McDermott has a strong track record of maximizing secondary talent, as seen with Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Tre’Davious White, Taylor Rapp, and Damar Hamlin. Moehrig would benefit from McDermott’s coaching while also having a realistic path to a starting role. If the Bills can navigate their salary cap challenges, adding Moehrig would be a smart, low-risk, high-reward move to strengthen their secondary.
