BREAKING: Georgia Reportedly Makes Move To bring home another Georgia alum who previously coached at Alabama As Defensive Coach
Kirby Smart brought a championship mindset from Alabama to Georgia, and this offseason, he is set to add another Georgia alum with ties to Alabama to his coaching staff. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that Garrett Cox is expected to join the Bulldogs’ defensive coaching team. Cox, who most recently worked with linebackers at TCU, brings previous coaching experience from Alabama, Michigan, and Tennessee.
He served as an analyst at Alabama from 2015-2018, during the time Smart was the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator before taking the Georgia head coaching job. Cox, a Georgia graduate with a degree in Education, also had a role as a student assistant on the Bulldogs’ defensive staff in 2006 under Mark Richt. Additionally, Cox worked as Georgia Southern’s video coordinator in 2007 and coached linebackers at Buford High School in 2008.

At Georgia, Cox will collaborate with defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, who, like Smart, came from Alabama’s coaching ranks and has served as co-defensive coordinator for the Bulldogs over the past six years, focusing on inside linebackers.
