The Buffalo Bills boasted one of the league’s top offenses last season, with Khalil Shakir leading the way. However, the team had higher expectations for their top draft pick, wide receiver Keon Coleman. The rookie started strong, recording receiving yard totals of 51, 51, 49, 125, and 70 in his first eight games. Unfortunately, a wrist injury sidelined him for four games, and after returning, he struggled to regain momentum, failing to surpass 31 yards in his final six appearances.

Reflecting on Coleman’s first year, head coach Sean McDermott was candid about his performance. “I thought he had an up-and-down first season. He built some early momentum, but after the injury, things became inconsistent,” McDermott told NFL.com. “We’re looking for him to learn from those challenges, have a strong offseason, and come into his second year ready to go.”

Despite the inconsistencies, Coleman still managed 556 yards and four touchdowns on just 29 receptions, ranking eighth among rookies in yards and yards per game and ninth in touchdowns. While his numbers were respectable, McDermott’s comments suggest the team expects much more from him in Year 2.

With Buffalo looking to add more receiving talent, Coleman could end up as the third option behind Shakir and a new addition. This reduced defensive attention might work in his favor. Either way, after a mixed rookie season, the Bills are hoping for greater production from Coleman in his second year.
