BREAKING: Top WR prospect drops major hint about joining Giants at NFL Combine
With uncertainty surrounding the future of the quarterback position for Joe Schoen and the New York Giants following the Matthew Stafford news, another area the team must focus on this offseason is wide receiver.
The Giants made a strong effort to secure a top-tier receiver for their offense by selecting Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick last offseason. Nabers had an impressive rookie season, recording 109 catches, 1,204 yards, and seven touchdowns.
With veteran Darius Slayton likely departing in free agency and Jalin Hyatt not developing as expected, the Giants are now looking to the NFL Draft and free agency to add another playmaker to their offense, which currently features Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson.
If the team opts for free agency, they could target a veteran like Stefon Diggs, Amari Cooper, or Hollywood Brown to fill the WR2 role in 2025.
One player the Giants may consider in the Draft is Texas’ Matthew Golden. The 21-year-old recently posted a photo on his personal Snapchat wearing a Giants beanie at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, which might hint at his interest in joining the team.

Should the Giants pursue Matthew Golden at the NFL Draft?
Golden could be the perfect solution for the Giants at WR2, offering a strong complement to Malik Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson in New York’s receiving corps. He had an outstanding season, posting 58 receptions, 987 yards, and nine touchdowns, while helping lead the Longhorns to a 13-3 record and a College Football Playoff Semifinal appearance against Ohio State.

Golden also impressed at the NFL Combine, running a WR-best 4.29-second 40-yard dash, which is sure to elevate his draft stock and potentially push him into the first round. However, if the Giants decide to trade down or if Golden slips to the second round, Joe Schoen should strongly consider bringing him to New York.

His 4.29 40-yard dash comes just a year after former Texas receiver Xavier Worthy set the NFL Scouting Combine record with a 4.21-second run, keeping the record within the Longhorns program for back-to-back years.
The Giants could also explore the possibility of drafting Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the second round to reunite him with Golden, similar to the connection Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase share in Cincinnati.
With many critical decisions ahead this offseason, Golden could play a significant role in shaping the future of New York’s offense.
