BREAKING: Raiders decide to cut starting quarterback
Last offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders brought in veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew to compete for the starting role. While he ultimately secured the job in the preseason, his tenure with the team appears to be coming to an early end.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Raiders have informed Minshew that he will be released once the new league year begins next Wednesday.
“The #Raiders informed QB Gardner Minshew they’ll release him when the new league year begins next Wednesday, per sources,” Pelissero shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pelissero also noted that Minshew, who has started 46 career games and is just 28 years old, remains a viable option for teams in need of an experienced quarterback.

Despite having $3.16 million in fully guaranteed money left on his two-year, $25 million contract signed last March, the Raiders’ new regime has decided to move in a different direction at quarterback.

Minshew, who won the starting job over Aidan O’Connell, played in 10 games for Las Vegas in 2024, posting a 2-7 record in his nine starts. He completed 66.3% of his passes for 2,013 yards, throwing nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
With Minshew’s departure, it remains to be seen how the Raiders will address their quarterback situation moving forward.
