BREAKING: Bills’ Damar Hamlin makes big change ahead of NFL free agency
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is set to become a free agent when the market opens on March 12—unless Buffalo opts to re-sign him before then. In preparation for contract negotiations, Hamlin has made a key career decision.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the soon-to-be 27-year-old has hired a new agent, Doug Hendrickson of Wasserman Sports, to represent him in his next NFL contract negotiations. Hendrickson, who represents high-profile players like Maxx Crosby, Kenny Clark, and Cameron Jordan, expressed excitement about working with Hamlin and helping guide his future both on and off the field.
Choosing Hendrickson could be a strategic move for Hamlin. Hendrickson recently negotiated a three-year, $106.5 million extension for Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
Hamlin played 14 games for the Bills last season, providing stability in the secondary. He recorded 89 total tackles, five pass deflections, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery—his highest single-season turnover total.

While he may not be the top safety available in free agency, Hamlin’s performance makes him an appealing option for teams, including Buffalo. With veteran safety Micah Hyde announcing his retirement in February, the Bills have a clear need in the secondary. The team is expected to explore other free agent safeties and could also consider drafting one in 2025.
Regardless of Buffalo’s approach, Hamlin remains a viable depth piece if the team looks to strengthen the position. His potential market value as a free agent remains uncertain.
