According to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com, the New York Giants are set to officially have a quarterback under contract this weekend.

Sources tell Stapleton that Tommy DeVito plans to sign his exclusive rights free agent (ERFA) tender in the coming days. Once the deal is finalized, the Giants will have one quarterback on their roster, as general manager Joe Schoen had previously indicated ahead of the NFL’s free agency negotiating period beginning Monday.

Stapleton also noted that DeVito’s ERFA contract will be worth $1.03 million for the 2025 season, though it is non-guaranteed.

This move has been anticipated since the end of the 2024 season, with Schoen often discussing DeVito as if he were already under contract. Securing the deal before free agency begins provides clarity as the Giants are expected to acquire at least two more quarterbacks—either through signings, trades, or the draft—before Organized Team Activities this spring.

Entering his age-27 season, DeVito offers valuable depth in Brian Daboll’s system at an affordable price.

Tommy DeVito Has Gone From Giants Cult Hero to Person of Blame Entering Year 3

As a rookie, Tommy DeVito quickly became a local sensation in New Jersey, winning over most of the Giants’ fanbase.

The undrafted quarterback, who grew up near MetLife Stadium, went 3-3 in his six starts during the 2023 season, completing 64% of his passes with an 8-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He posted an 89.2 passer rating, though his QBR was a much lower 23.7 out of 100, reflecting a more inconsistent overall performance.

Despite the Giants’ struggles that year, DeVito brought some excitement to the team, and fans initially appreciated his contributions. However, public sentiment has since shifted—not because of his play or personality, but due to how his unexpected success may have impacted the team’s draft position. Some fans believe his wins, along with a late-season victory from backup Drew Lock, cost the Giants a chance at selecting a top quarterback prospect like Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye in 2024.

As a result, DeVito has become somewhat of a scapegoat in the Giants’ ongoing quarterback dilemma, despite not being at fault for the team’s broader struggles.

Regardless, DeVito remains focused on proving himself in the league. He will continue that fight in 2025 as he looks to secure a spot on the Giants’ 53-man roster during training camp.

Giants Ink Long Snapper Casey Kreiter to New Deal

The Giants also announced on March 5 that they have agreed to a new one-year deal with long snapper Casey Kreiter.

According to team reporter Dan Salomone, Kreiter—a two-time team captain—has played every game over the past eight seasons, including five with the Giants. He was among 21 Giants players set to hit unrestricted free agency when the new league year begins on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET.

Kreiter has appeared in 142 regular-season games between his time with the Broncos (2016-19) and Giants (2020-present). He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2018 with Denver and was voted a Giants captain in both 2022 and 2024. Last season, he handled long-snapping duties for punts and placekicks in all 17 games while also recording five special teams tackles.

With DeVito nearing a deal and Kreiter officially re-signed, the Giants have already crossed two names off their free agency to-do list.
