BREAKING: Buffalo Bills Cut 3 Top Players After Latest Josh Allen Extension Ahead Of Free Agency
With the NFL’s legal tampering period set to begin Monday at 12:00 PM EST, the Buffalo Bills are working to free up cap space. They’ve already taken steps by releasing pass rusher Von Miller on Sunday and punter Sam Martin on Thursday, moves that cleared approximately $10 million. Additionally, a few contract extensions have helped distribute money more efficiently.
However, the Bills still need to make further cap adjustments to be active this week. According to Spotrac, they are currently $864K over the salary cap even before factoring in Greg Rousseau’s extension. That means more roster moves may be necessary. So, which players could be on the chopping block next? Let’s take a closer look at potential cuts.
Release quarterback Mitch Trubisky

The Bills signed Mitch Trubisky to a two-year, $5.2 million deal last season, but cutting him now would free up $2.5 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. Given Josh Allen’s durability—rarely missing games even when injured—Buffalo doesn’t necessarily need a high-priced backup. Instead, they could find a more affordable option and allocate those savings to other areas of need.
Trade cornerback Kaiir Elam

At this point, keeping Kaiir Elam doesn’t make sense for either side. Moving on would give Buffalo a clean break while offering Elam a fresh start elsewhere. Entering the final year of his rookie deal, the Bills have likely determined he’s not worth keeping as a depth piece. Trading him before June 1st would free up $2.5 million in cap space, per Spotrac.
With plenty of talented cornerbacks available in free agency and the draft, Buffalo has options to replace him. Regardless of Elam’s status, cornerback remains a position to watch. The best outcome for the Bills is to trade him and recoup some of his contract. At just 23 years old, Elam still has the potential to develop into a solid corner—but it likely won’t be in Buffalo.
Release linebacker Baylon Spector

The Bills appear content with their current linebacker group—except for Baylon Spector. With Matt Milano returning fully healthy for the 2025 season and Joe Andreessen emerging as a solid depth option, Buffalo seems set at the position.
Cutting Spector would free up $1.1 million in cap space, per Spotrac, giving the Bills more flexibility to bolster other areas of need, such as cornerback and pass rush. Moving on from Spector would not only create financial flexibility but also open up more opportunities for their stronger linebackers.
