After suffering an ACL tear midway through the 2023 season, Talanoa Hufanga spent most of 2024 working toward a full recovery. The USC product eventually returned to action, starting and playing in seven games while recording 38 tackles, two tackles for loss, and earning a 57.8 PFF grade, ranking 74th out of 98 eligible safeties. While his numbers weren’t outstanding, it’s worth noting that he was still regaining form after his injury and didn’t quite resemble his usual self.

Hufanga entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick in the 2021 Draft, selected by the San Francisco 49ers. As a rookie, he primarily played a backup role, appearing in 15 games with three starts. He recorded 32 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit while contributing to a 49ers team that reached the NFC Championship Game but fell to the Los Angeles Rams.

His breakout came in 2022 when he became a full-time starter. That season, he racked up four interceptions, nine passes defended, two sacks, 97 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits, earning a 72.1 PFF grade along with Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors. Once again, the 49ers reached the NFC Championship, but their run ended after quarterback Brock Purdy suffered an early elbow injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hufanga’s 2023 campaign was cut short after just 10 games, though he managed to secure three interceptions before the injury. Since entering the league, he has appeared in 49 games with 27 starts, amassing seven interceptions, 14 passes defended, two sacks, 219 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits.
