Chris Drury wasted no time securing the Rangers’ backup goaltender for the 2025-26 season, signing Jonathan Quick to a one-year deal with a $1.55 million AAV to continue backing up Igor Shesterkin.

When it comes to American-born NHL goaltenders, Quick holds nearly every major record. This season, he reached the historic 400-win milestone and continues climbing the all-time wins list. By season’s end, he is projected to surpass Grant Fuhr for 13th place, and by the conclusion of next season—likely his last—he could reach as high as 11th. Each time he takes the ice, fans are witnessing a piece of hockey history.

Beyond his accolades, Quick has been a valuable asset for the Rangers during his two seasons in New York. While his first year was stronger due to the team’s overall performance, his 27 wins and .904 save percentage across 43 starts have been more than reliable for a backup.

Quick has also fully embraced his role, earning praise from teammates for his leadership and camaraderie. A standout example was when he brought Blake Wheeler’s son to the family skate at MetLife Stadium before the Stadium Series game, ensuring the young fan didn’t miss out.

His presence has also allowed the Rangers to take their time developing Dylan Garand in the AHL. For many Blueshirts fans, Quick’s impact on and off the ice has helped soften memories of the 2014 Stanley Cup Final.
