The Duke men’s basketball X account addressed Jon Scheyer not winning the ACC Coach of the Year award, despite leading the Blue Devils to a 28-3 regular season record, a 19-1 mark in ACC play, a No. 1 AP ranking, and a likely top seed in the NCAA Tournament. Instead, the award went to Louisville’s first-year head coach, Pat Kelsey.

While Kelsey was certainly a deserving candidate, many believe Scheyer was overlooked given Duke’s dominant season. In response, Duke basketball took to social media, drawing a comparison to Mike Krzyzewski, who was frequently snubbed for the award despite his sustained success.

“Haven’t seen a coach snubbed for ACC COTY like this since Coach K didn’t win it once over his final 22 seasons, which included 3 national titles, 10 ACC Tourney titles, 5 ACC RS (regular season) titles, and 11 30-win seasons,” the post read.

The statement also highlighted Duke’s historic accomplishments under Scheyer, including winning 10 ACC games by 25+ points (a record), a +434 point differential in ACC play (the highest by a power conference team in 70 years), and the best adjusted offensive rating by an ACC team in the last 30 years (129.1).

Duke entered the season with high expectations, blending the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class with experienced returners and key transfers. Scheyer has delivered, positioning Duke as a national championship contender.
