BREAKING: 49ers announce signing of WR and six other players

The San Francisco 49ers have signed tight end Luke Farrell to a three-year contract, wide receiver Demarcus Robinson to a two-year deal, and cornerback Tre Brown, linebacker Luke Gifford, safeties Richie Grant and Jason Pinnock, and long snapper Jon Weeks to one-year contracts. Additionally, the team has released long snapper Taybor Pepper.

Farrell, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 250 pounds, was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round (145th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. Over four seasons with Jacksonville, he played in 66 games (20 starts), recording 36 receptions for 318 yards (8.8 yards per catch). He also participated in two postseason games with the Jaguars. In the 2024 season, Farrell appeared in all 17 games (eight starts), finishing with 12 catches for 67 yards (5.6 yards per catch).

The 27-year-old from Perry, OH, played four seasons at Ohio State University (2017-20), where he appeared in 44 games (32 starts), totaling 34 receptions for 380 yards (11.2-yard average) and four touchdowns.

Robinson, a 6-foot-1, 202-pound receiver, was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round (126th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. Over his nine-year career with the Chiefs (2016-21), Baltimore Ravens (2022), and Los Angeles Rams (2023-24), he has played in 147 games (68 starts), tallying 250 receptions for 3,013 yards (12.1 yards per catch) and 27 touchdowns. He has also appeared in 17 postseason games (10 starts), recording 23 catches for 410 yards (17.8 average) and two touchdowns. In 2024, Robinson started all 17 games, posting career highs with 505 receiving yards, a 16.3-yard average per catch, and seven touchdowns. He also contributed four receptions for 97 yards in two playoff games.

Former Rams WR DeMarcus Robinson Agrees to Two-Year Deal With 49ers

The 30-year-old from Fort Valley, GA, played three seasons at the University of Florida (2013-15), where he recorded 107 receptions for 1,366 yards (12.8 average) and nine touchdowns across 29 games (20 starts).

Brown, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback, was drafted in the fourth round (137th overall) by the Seattle Seahawks in 2021. Over four seasons with Seattle, he played in 39 games (13 starts), recording 70 tackles, eight passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and 1.0 sack. He also appeared in a playoff game. In 2024, he played 13 games (three starts), totaling 23 tackles and one pass defensed.

The 27-year-old from Tulsa, OK, spent four years at the University of Oklahoma (2017-20), where he played in 51 games and amassed 141 tackles, 35 passes defensed, 8.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and 2.0 sacks.

Gifford, a 6-foot-3, 243-pound linebacker, entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. Over six seasons with the Cowboys (2019-22) and Tennessee Titans (2023-24), he played in 73 games (five starts), recording 46 tackles, two passes defensed, one forced fumble, one interception, one fumble recovery, and 31 special teams tackles. He has also appeared in three playoff games, adding two special teams tackles. In 2024, he played 16 games (four starts), setting career highs with 35 tackles, two passes defensed, one interception, and 14 special teams tackles—ranking fifth in the NFL in that category.

 

The Lincoln, NE, native played five seasons (2014-18) at the University of Nebraska, where he totaled 109 tackles, 7.0 sacks, seven passes defensed, one interception, and one forced fumble in 29 games (18 starts). He was named an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection in 2018.

Grant, a 6-foot, 200-pound safety, was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round (40th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. Over four seasons in Atlanta, he played in 67 games (33 starts), recording 264 tackles, 17 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, 3.0 sacks, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries, along with 10 special teams tackles. In 2024, he appeared in all 17 games (one start), registering 11 tackles and two passes defensed.

A 27-year-old from Fort Walton Beach, FL, Grant played at the University of Central Florida from 2016 to 2020, where he posted 291 tackles, 10 interceptions, 29 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 48 games. He earned First-Team All-AAC honors three consecutive years (2018-20).

Pinnock, a 6-foot, 200-pound safety, was drafted by the New York Jets in the fifth round (175th overall) in 2021. Over four NFL seasons with the Jets (2021) and New York Giants (2022-24), he appeared in 58 games (39 starts), recording 223 tackles, 11 passes defensed, 6.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and one fumble recovery. He also played in two postseason games, tallying one tackle. In 2024, he started 16 games, finishing with 85 tackles, 3.0 sacks, and one pass defensed.

The Windsor, CT, native played four seasons (2017-20) at the University of Pittsburgh, where he registered 54 tackles, 25 passes defensed, six interceptions, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, and one fumble recovery in 42 games.

Weeks, a 5-foot-10, 242-pound long snapper, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2010. Over his 15-year career (2010-24), he played in 244 games, recording 40 special teams tackles. A 2015 Pro Bowl selection, he was also the Texans’ nominee for the 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. In 2024, he played in all 17 games with Houston.

A 39-year-old from Bethpage, NY, Weeks played at Baylor University (2004-07), where he was the team’s long snapper in 34 games, recording seven special teams tackles.

Pepper, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound long snapper, played 80 games over five seasons (2020-24) with the 49ers and appeared in nine playoff games before his release.
