BREAKING: Mets manager reveals important information about pitching plans

Before spring training began, the New York Mets had ambitious plans for a six-man rotation, a luxury made possible by their deep pitching staff.

However, as is often the case in baseball, injuries to Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea disrupted those plans, forcing the Mets to adjust.

Now, rather than finalizing a six-man rotation, they are focusing on filling out the back end of their staff. The silver lining? They still have plenty of options.

Three Arms, Two Spots

With three spots likely secured by Clay Holmes, David Peterson, and Kodai Senga, the Mets are looking to fill two more positions. The candidates for those spots are Griffin Canning, Tylor Megill, and Paul Blackburn.

However, the challenge lies in the fact that Megill still has minor league options, so he can be sent down without risk of losing him. On the other hand, Canning and Blackburn would need to pass through waivers to be sent to the minors, complicating the decision.

Juggling the Roster

Manager Carlos Mendoza and the Mets are exploring a potential solution: keeping all three pitchers on the roster but moving one to the bullpen. While long relief isn’t the most glamorous role, it could be a way to ensure all three stay involved.

Given Megill’s previous bullpen experience, he seems like the logical choice for that role. However, he’s been pitching impressively during camp, and his fastball looks particularly strong.

Monday will be a crucial day in the decision-making process, as both Blackburn and Canning are scheduled to pitch. It will be a key opportunity to see who steps up and who might need to adjust to a new role by Opening Day.
