BREAKING: Mets reunite with former player to fill up depth
The Mets have signed infielder Diego Castillo to a minor league contract, as noted in the MLB transaction log.
Venezuelan reporter Georgeny Pérez first reported the signing last week.
Castillo, 27, briefly occupied a spot on the Mets’ 40-man roster in January 2024 after being claimed off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he was designated for assignment shortly afterward.

Last season, he played four games for the Minnesota Twins, recording two hits in six at-bats, while posting a .261/.364/.397 slash line in Triple-A.
His most extensive major league experience came in 2022 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he hit .206/.251/.382 with 11 home runs across 283 plate appearances.
