BREAKIG: Giants land star quarterback prospect just tanked further

The New York Giants have been closely monitoring the top quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL Draft, showing a growing interest in Miami quarterback Cam Ward. However, securing Ward would likely require them to trade up for the No. 1 overall pick—something they are reportedly considering.

That said, making such a move isn’t simple, as it requires a willing trade partner. After Miami’s Pro Day, the Tennessee Titans appear to be zeroing in on Ward with the top pick.

The Titans are locking in on Miami QB Cam Ward

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Titans are now more inclined than ever to select Cam Ward with the first overall pick, making it increasingly difficult for any team to trade up.

“Tennessee will hold an additional private workout with potential No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward,” Schefter reported on X. “The Titans have become increasingly impressed with Ward and, while they are expected to listen to offers for the No. 1 overall pick, it now would take an even stronger package to acquire the draft’s top selection.”

Previously, the asking price for the No. 1 pick was believed to be a first-round pick swap along with two top-100 selections. However, that deal now appears to be off the table. If the Giants hope to move up from No. 3, they’ll need to put together a blockbuster offer.

The Giants have been impressed by Ward

Ward delivered a strong performance at Miami’s Pro Day on Monday, drawing significant attention from the Giants. New York sent a full delegation to evaluate him, including general manager Joe Schoen, assistant GM Brandon Brown, director of player personnel Tim McDonnell, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, tight ends coach Tim Kelly, and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney.

During the NFL Scouting Combine, there was speculation that the Giants were aiming to trade up for the first overall pick to select Cam Ward. However, that possibility now seems more like a long shot than a realistic scenario.

Ward is widely regarded as the top quarterback prospect in this year’s draft. The Miami standout threw for 4,313 yards and an NCAA-best 39 touchdowns with just seven interceptions in 2024, earning All-American honors and finishing fourth in Heisman Trophy voting.

The Giants recently signed Jameis Winston in free agency, adding a dependable veteran presence. However, they still lack a clear long-term answer at quarterback. While Ward appears to be their preferred option, landing him now seems unlikely.
