After a difficult tenure with the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson hoped to revitalize his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Initially signed as the unquestioned starter, Wilson suffered a calf injury early in the 2024 season, causing him to miss the first six games. He returned for the final 11 games with mixed results. Though he had a strong start, Wilson struggled down the stretch, ending the season on a five-game losing streak, including a blowout playoff defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. He completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Wilson was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Exceeding expectations from the start, he earned the Week 1 starting job over free agent Matt Flynn.

As a rookie, he made the Pro Bowl, completing 64.1% of his passes for 3,118 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He followed that up with a standout 2013 season, leading the Seahawks to their first-ever championship with a dominant win over Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos.

Wilson remained one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks throughout the 2010s until his trade to the Denver Broncos in 2022. Signed to a massive contract, he struggled under first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett. In 2022, Wilson started all 16 games, completing 60.5% of his passes for 3,524 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. While he showed improvement in Year 2 under Sean Payton, it wasn’t enough to save his job. The Broncos took a record amount of dead money to release him and selected his successor, Bo Nix, in the 2024 NFL Draft.
