REPORT: Canadiens Are Acquiring Panthers Star in Offseason Trade
The Montreal Canadiens are in the hunt for a playoff spot, but regardless of the outcome, they should be proactive in the offseason to strengthen their roster.
PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool allows fans to create and propose trades. One user suggested a deal in which the Canadiens would acquire Anton Lundell from the Florida Panthers.
Trade Proposal:
Canadiens receive:
- Anton Lundell
Panthers receive:
- Kirby Dach
- Joshua Roy
- Calgary’s 2025 first-round pick
This trade would be an interesting one, as Montreal would land a key forward who played a significant role in Florida’s 2025 Stanley Cup victory. In exchange, the Canadiens would send a first-round pick and two NHL forwards to the Panthers.

Lundell, 23, is in the first year of a six-year, $30 million contract. He would serve as a middle-six forward for Montreal, bringing scoring ability, defensive reliability, and championship experience to the lineup. This season, he has posted 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 70 games.
On the other hand, Montreal would be parting with a valuable first-round pick and Dach, a fan favorite. Florida, which still needs to re-sign Sam Bennett, could benefit from clearing cap space, as Dach’s $1.6 million lower salary provides some relief. This season, Dach has registered 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 57 games.
Additionally, Florida would acquire Roy, a bottom-six forward who adds offensive potential and physicality. In limited action, he has tallied two goals in 11 games.
Canadiens Battling for Playoff Spot
Before focusing on the offseason, the Montreal Canadiens remain determined to secure a playoff spot.
Currently holding onto the final Wild Card position, captain Nick Suzuki emphasized that the team is already in postseason mode.

“We’re in playoff mode right now. We can’t afford losses and giving up points,” Suzuki said.
Veteran forward Josh Anderson highlighted the passionate support from fans, which fuels the team’s drive to make the playoffs.
“Seeing the support of the crowd gives you goosebumps,” Anderson said. “It makes you want to play in the playoffs so bad. It’s been a tough three years, and they’ve patiently waited. We’re going to do everything we can as a team to make a push. I really love the compete level in this group.”
The Canadiens are aiming for their first playoff appearance since the 2020-21 season.
Panthers GM Praises Lundell
Lundell has become an integral part of the Panthers’ roster, earning a significant contract extension as a result.
After he signed the extension in July, Panthers GM Billy Zito praised the Finnish forward for his versatility and impact on the team.
“Anton has matured into a dependable multirole center for our club, who seized his opportunity from his first day in North America,” Zito said. “His commitment to improvement and cerebral approach to the game earned him the profound respect of his teammates and coaches, and we are excited to see him continue to grow and succeed with the Panthers.”
Lundell played a key role in Florida’s Stanley Cup run last season, contributing 3 goals and 14 assists for 17 points in the playoffs.
