BREAKING: Vikings, GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in Talks for Contract Extension
The Vikings have unsurprisingly secured a contract extension for head coach Kevin O’Connell this offseason. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who has worked alongside O’Connell for three years, could also see his tenure extended beyond 2025.
Adofo-Mensah currently has one year left on his contract, and teams typically aim to avoid ‘lame-duck’ scenarios with their coaching and front-office staff. With O’Connell signed beyond the upcoming season, Adofo-Mensah could soon follow suit. The 43-year-old confirmed (via ESPN’s Kevin Seifert) that extension talks are ongoing between his agent and team owners Zygi and Mark Wilf.

“It’s probably on me that it’s not moving faster because I wake up every morning focused on what I need to do to get this team where it needs to be,” Adofo-Mensah said. “I know the Wilfs appreciate what I bring to the organization, and I love it here. We’ve accomplished a lot already.”
Over the past three years, the Vikings have shifted toward a younger core at several key positions. Their impressive 14-3 record last season has raised expectations, though uncertainty remains at quarterback. J.J. McCarthy, who missed his rookie year, is expected to take over as the starter next season—pending the addition of a veteran quarterback. If Adofo-Mensah secures a new deal, he will be responsible for guiding this transition.
The NFC North had three playoff teams in 2024 and remains one of the league’s most competitive divisions. Maintaining stability with the reigning Coach of the Year is crucial, and given Adofo-Mensah’s performance, ownership could opt to extend his contract as well.
Following the Vikings’ wild-card exit—their second under O’Connell and Adofo-Mensah—team leadership confirmed that extension discussions would take place for both. With O’Connell’s deal done, there is still ample time this offseason to finalize Adofo-Mensah’s future.
