‘We’ve Got to Get Bigger’ Through the Portal: Hubert Davis reveals biggest need in transfer portal
The 2025 offseason is crucial for Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels. After narrowly making the NCAA Tournament, UNC’s run ended abruptly with a disappointing first-round loss to Ole Miss.
Now, the focus shifts to roster construction through the transfer portal, where key questions must be addressed immediately. Two Tar Heels, Elliot Cadeau and Jalen Washington, have already entered the portal, leaving UNC with important gaps to fill. On Wednesday, Davis emphasized the team’s biggest need moving forward.

“We’ve got to get bigger,” Davis stated on his final weekly radio show of the season, per Inside Carolina. “From A to Z, we just do. Ole Miss had more size and physicality than us, and that was the case for much of the season. We have to address that—we need to be bigger and establish a stronger presence.”
Davis’ assessment is spot on. The Tar Heels often struggled against more physical opponents, and their loss to Ole Miss was a clear example.

Last offseason, UNC aimed to replace top rebounders Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram but missed out on key transfer targets. While they landed Ven-Allen Lubin, who showed promise, their overall frontcourt depth remained an issue. If the Tar Heels fail to secure impact players in the portal again, the consequences could be even more severe.
