REPORT: Bills Leave Door Open for Former All Star WR’s Return in 2025
The Buffalo Bills have adjusted their wide receiver group this offseason, and general manager Brandon Beane has suggested that another major move could be on the horizon—the potential return of Amari Cooper.
Acquired from the Cleveland Browns at last season’s trade deadline, Cooper was brought in to strengthen Buffalo’s offense and improve their Super Bowl chances. While he made some key plays, his impact was inconsistent.
Now a free agent, Cooper remains on the Bills’ radar, with Beane indicating that the team is still considering bringing back the Pro Bowl receiver.
Door Remains Open on Amari Cooper
At this week’s league meetings, Bills general manager Brandon Beane acknowledged that the team is open to re-signing two former players who are currently free agents.
“Brandon Beane says the #Bills have not closed the door on bringing back CB Rasul Douglas or WR Amari Cooper,” reporter Alex Brasky shared on X.

Cooper appeared in eight games for Buffalo last season, recording 20 catches for 297 yards and two touchdowns. His role fluctuated at times, including a game against the Detroit Lions where he did not receive a target, despite the Bills’ 48-42 victory. However, Cooper remained unfazed by his limited involvement.
Speaking to The Buffalo News after the game, Cooper expressed his appreciation for being in Buffalo.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” he said. “Honestly, I’ve been waiting my whole life to be on a team like this.”

The veteran receiver emphasized that winning was his top priority, even when he wasn’t heavily involved in the offense.
“Obviously, I’m a receiver—every receiver wants the ball. But I’m in Year 10, and what’s most important to me is winning,” Cooper said. “I think we definitely have the formula. It’s actually kind of cool—going from 14 targets to zero and still beating a great team, possibly a future playoff opponent.”
While Cooper has not publicly addressed his free agency plans, the Bills have a track record of retaining players who embrace the team’s culture and selfless mentality.
Bills Tending to Their Wide Receiving Corps
The Bills have already made adjustments to their wide receiver group, including signing receiver and return specialist Laviska Shenault Jr.

Shenault expressed excitement about joining Buffalo, mirroring the enthusiasm Cooper shared last season.
“This is a great organization,” Shenault said via the team’s official website. “I hear from a lot of players that have played here. The fans are crazy. I love the fans. I love the energy that they bring. And then the team, it’s a playoff-caliber team every year. So, I just think there’s a lot of great opportunities here.”
In addition to adding Shenault, the Bills secured receiver Khalil Shakir with a four-year contract extension. However, the team also saw some departures, including wide receiver and special teams standout Mack Hollins.
