The UConn Huskies secured their first national championship in women’s basketball since 2016 with an 82-59 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday, with Sarah Strong, Paige Bueckers, and Azzi Fudd leading the charge.

The win sparked reactions from both current and former college basketball stars who praised the team’s performance. Among them was Aaliyah Edwards, a recent UConn forward and the sixth overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, who celebrated the Huskies’ 12th national title with a message to UConn fans.

“@UConnWBB UCONN NATION LET ME HEAR YUUUU #bleedblue,” Edwards wrote, sharing a video of the celebration.

Edwards was also seen at UConn’s Final Four game on April 4, where the Huskies secured their spot in the national championship game.

A dedicated supporter of UConn, she even retweeted a birthday message for coach Auriemma last month. Now, she can celebrate alongside her former teammates, who clinched the title in Phoenix.
