After guiding North Carolina to the Final Four in 2022, RJ Davis and the Tar Heels were unable to return in the seasons that followed, closing out Davis’s college career without a national title. His final game in a UNC uniform came in the team’s first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Ole Miss. The backcourt took another hit when starting guard Elliot Cadeau announced his transfer to Michigan, leaving the Tar Heels a bit thin.

But despite some key departures, head coach Hubert Davis received a boost on Tuesday when junior guard Seth Trimble announced via Instagram that he’ll be returning for his senior season at Chapel Hill.

Trimble shared the news with a photoshopped graphic of himself in a UNC jersey that read, “I’m back.” Davis, who shared three seasons with Trimble and made two NCAA Tournament appearances alongside him, responded to the post with a video clip of Trimble energizing the crowd. Their deepest run together came in 2024, when the Tar Heels reached the Sweet 16.

Trimble had a limited role as a freshman, averaging just 9.7 minutes per game, but saw increased action in his sophomore year, doubling his minutes (17.1 per game) and averaging 5.2 points. Though he came off the bench in the ACC and NCAA tournaments, Trimble started 18 of 34 games during the 2024-25 season and posted career highs across the board—11.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.
