BREAKING: Four-star running back Commits to UNC After his official visit to the school
Four-star running back Jaylen McGill gave his commitment to North Carolina on Saturday while on his official visit to the school.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound standout from Mountain View Prep in Spartanburg, S.C., had recently attended a UNC spring practice and previously visited the program twice during Mack Brown’s tenure, which featured an Air Raid-style offense. However, UNC appeared to lose traction in his recruitment during the season.
“The biggest difference between Coach Brown’s system and what Coach Belichick runs is definitely the offensive scheme,” McGill told Inside Carolina after his practice visit. “This offense is much more pro-style — the kind of system a young player like me wants to be in with NFL goals in mind.”
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, McGill is the No. 255 overall player and the No. 18 running back nationally, while ranking No. 6 in South Carolina.

During his junior year at Mountain View Prep, McGill totaled 1,658 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns on 163 carries across 12 games. He also caught 22 passes for 379 yards and seven scores.
He began his high school career at nearby Broome High, where he racked up 2,638 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns over 20 games, averaging 8.3 yards per carry. He added 17 receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns during that span.
Earlier in the offseason, McGill was committed to Rutgers for about two and a half weeks.
