The Minnesota Gophers men’s basketball team has added another piece to its backcourt puzzle, landing a commitment from Western Michigan point guard Chansey Willis on Monday — just a day after securing combo guard Langston Reynolds from Northern Colorado.

Willis, a 6’2″, 190-pound Detroit native, put up impressive numbers last season, averaging 16.8 points and 5.8 assists over 24 games. He shot 43% from the field, 28% from deep, and 72% from the line.

With his college journey starting at Saginaw Valley State (D-II) and then moving through Henry Ford College (JUCO), Willis may still have two years of eligibility remaining. Thanks to recent NCAA rules, junior college seasons within the past year haven’t counted against a player’s eligibility clock.

A former Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022, Willis brings a proven scoring and playmaking touch to the Gophers’ rotation. His commitment leaves Minnesota with four open scholarship spots for the upcoming season.

Willis’ decision to join the Gophers was first reported by 247Sports.
