Former UNC basketball guard Ian Jackson has officially committed to Rick Pitino and the St. John’s Red Storm.

After entering the transfer portal on April 7 following one season in Chapel Hill, many insiders expected the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Bronx native to return closer to home—and to the program that had been a serious contender in his original recruitment. That prediction proved accurate, though Jackson did explore a few other options before ultimately choosing St. John’s as his next stop.

The former five-star prospect and McDonald’s All American still has three years of eligibility remaining. However, given that he was regularly featured in mock drafts during his time at UNC, it’s possible he’ll only play one year under Pitino before declaring for the 2026 NBA Draft.

In 36 games for the Tar Heels last season, Jackson averaged 11.9 points and 2.7 rebounds over 23.8 minutes per game, earning starts in a third of those appearances under head coach Hubert Davis.
