Gary Patterson, who led the TCU Horned Frogs football program from 2000 to 2021, compiled a 181-79 record, making him the winningest coach in school history. On Wednesday, TCU announced Patterson as one of nine new inductees into the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame’s 2025 class. “Welcome to the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame, Coach Patterson!” the football program shared on X. Over his 24-year tenure, Patterson guided the team to six conference titles, earned 22 national coach of the year awards, and coached 263 all-conference players, 21 first-team All-Americans, and 55 NFL Draft selections.
The 2025 Hall of Fame class includes two coaches and seven former student-athletes: Gary Patterson (Football), Richard Sybesma (Swim and Dive), Julien Brun (Men’s Golf, ’15), Matt Carpenter (Baseball, ’09), Whitney (Gipson) Bright (Track and Field, ’12), Preston Morrison (Baseball, ’15), Glen Norris (Track and Field, ’78), Charles Silmon (Track and Field, ’14), and Jason Verrett (Football, ’13). Patterson stepped down in 2021 after a 3-5 start and later served as a special assistant to Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian in 2022, and as a consultant for Baylor before the 2024 season.
Reflecting on Patterson’s legacy, former athletic director Jeremiah Donati remarked, “Gary Patterson’s impact on TCU and the rise of the football program over the past two decades is among the most extraordinary stories in college football. We’re thankful for everything Gary and Kelsey Patterson have done for TCU and the Fort Worth community. His leadership helped make TCU a nationally respected name in college athletics.”
