For the second time in a week, Michigan State is looking to strengthen its defensive line through the transfer portal.
On Tuesday, Georgia State edge rusher Cam Williams announced on social media that he is transferring to the Spartans. He becomes the second post-spring addition at EDGE, following the commitment of Texas Tech’s Isaac Smith last week.
Williams, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound Georgia native, previously played at Troy and Jacksonville State before landing at Georgia State. Last season, he recorded 21 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble across 12 games. He also received portal interest from Purdue and Kansas and made a visit to East Lansing last week.
Michigan State struggled to generate pressure last season, going six consecutive games without recording a sack and finishing 5-7. The team lacks experience at EDGE, especially after losing several scholarship players—like Anthony Jones and James Schott—to the portal in April.
Earlier in the offseason, the Spartans added EDGE transfers Anelu Lafaele from Wisconsin and David Santiago from Air Force. With the spring additions of Williams, Smith, defensive backs Anthony Pinnace and Tracy Revels, and tight end Kai Rios, Michigan State has now brought in five scholarship players this spring.
