It’s generally considered poor manners to take the last cookie—especially if you’re part of the College GameDay crew and that cookie happens to be a Little Debbie oatmeal creme pie.
That’s the dilemma host Rece Davis faced during a recent outing.
“I’ve got a serious sweet tooth,” Davis admitted on this week’s ESPN College GameDay podcast. “But I witnessed an incredible moment of self-control at the snack table during the draft.”
College GameDay was broadcasting from the NFL Draft in Green Bay, where Nick Saban also appeared as part of the coverage.

“I try not to eat much before we go on air,” Davis explained. “Either I eat nothing or just a little. I walked in, and sitting there was the very last Little Debbie oatmeal creme pie. Now, I know Saban’s known for loving those, but I’ve been grabbing them from gas stations for four decades.”

According to Davis, this was the first time those particular snacks had ever been part of the GameDay setup. Saban had joined the GameDay team after retiring from coaching Alabama earlier in 2024.
“There’s just one left, and I’m thinking, ‘He’d never know,’” Davis recalled. “But then I thought, ‘If he wants it, I’ll let him have it.’ In the end, I didn’t take anything.”
A bit later, Saban arrived—and ate the last oatmeal creme pie.
“I told him, ‘I saved that for you,’” Davis said.
To which Saban replied, “I saw yesterday there was only one left, and I was curious if someone would take it before I got the chance.”
