Somehow, the 49ers managed to lock in a major contract extension ahead of this offseason’s minicamp.
Tight end George Kittle just inked a new four-year deal with San Francisco last week. Could that mean quarterback Brock Purdy is next in line for an extension?
Not quite, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
“They’ve been negotiating,” Pelissero said. “Talks are ongoing. Purdy is present and training with the team, even though his contract situation hasn’t been resolved. When a deal is eventually reached, it won’t be in the $40 million range like what was discussed on the Puka Nacua podcast — this one’s likely to land in the $50 million range.

“The 49ers have made it clear they view Purdy as their long-term quarterback. They’re not close to a deal yet, and nothing is expected immediately, but all sides seem motivated to get something done before training camp.”
It appears Purdy isn’t budging on his reported demand for at least $50 million annually and is willing to wait to see if the team ups their offer.

Meanwhile, Kittle was able to sign his deal early by compromising. As The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported, he originally sought $20 million per year but agreed to $19.1 million.
If Purdy were open to accepting less than $50 million annually, his extension might already be done. But for now, it seems he’s not willing to settle.
