Miami football has landed a commitment from quarterback, the son of former Hurricanes All-American Joaquin Gonzalez. A member of the 2025 recruiting class, Vinny has led Christopher Columbus High School to two state titles. Though his individual stats are modest—1,025 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and a 64.6% completion rate over 18 games—his leadership and winning pedigree stand out. The 2024-25 season will mark his first as the full-time starter.
Joaquin Gonzalez, a Columbus alum like his son, was a standout offensive lineman for Miami, earning All-American honors in 2000 and 2001 and helping the Hurricanes capture the 2001 BCS National Championship. He went on to play four seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
The Hurricanes already have promising depth at quarterback. Four-star 2025 recruit Luke Nickel, from Alpharetta, GA, enrolled early and impressed during spring practices, taking first-team reps with Carson Beck sidelined by injury. Emory Williams, a 2023 three-star signee, also took snaps with the first team this spring and has appeared in seven games.

Looking ahead, Miami is also expecting four-star 2026 prospect Dereon Coleman, who earned a spot at the Elite 11 Finals in April.
